The reason NATO is not the threat to Russia it imagines is that it has no reason or interest in attacking Russia and has never even mentioned it as a possibility, even to try and influence Russian co-operation. It exists purely to contain Russian expansionist notions - which have not only been threatened, but acted upon. Everyone seems to conveniently omit Crimea from this discussion.
